The “official” start to the Summer is really Memorial Day weekend, but nothing says Summer’s here in New York City than the annual Governor’s Ball Music Festival. This year, the event takes place from June 2nd… More
There are many things in life that people enjoy spending their money on, but two of those things that comes first to my head are live concerts and sporting events. We already know that with the way that that the economy has been working as of lately, inflation has impacted both of these industries, making costs of either event, well costly.
The Washington Wizards are helping take the brunt off of that ordeal by offering you the chance for a buy one get one free type of deal. Starting in December, the franchise is kicking off its Friday Night Concert Series, which is a totally free concert after specific games at the Verizon Center.
The first of the advertised shows takes place on December 31st, when four-time Grammy Award nominated artist Tank and DJ Quicksilva will tipoff the concert series with a performance that will also feature a special guest appearance by four-time Grammy Award nominee Johnny Gill of New Edition.
Other acts throughout the months will be:
Jan. 6 – Backyard Band, Team Familiar, and DJ Rico
Mar. 17 – Bell Biv Devoe, and DJ Money
Mar. 24 – Erica Campbell and DJ Enya
Again, these shows are totally free, but only with the purchase of a game ticket for that night’s Wizards game. For ticket information call 202-661-5050 or visitwww.washingtonwizards.com/concertseries.
Well Merry Christmas INDEED to us! The folks over at ESSENCE just blessed us with an early gift, which came in the form of the 2017 Essence Festival talent lineup.
They really seem to be on the ball this year with announcements regarding the annual festival, because last year no one heard anything about ANY acts until the end of February 2016. As of right now, we haven’t even entered into the new year yet, and have a full deck of playing cards, NICE!
Now we know who will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for June 30- July 2, 2017 pulled a sneak attack and threw out a list of some of it’s headliners.
Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Puff Daddy & The Family, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Charlie Wilson, Babyface and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?
Headliners include a few Festival first-timers, The Boss, Ms. Diana Ross and Teyana Taylor making an appearance and Festival favorites, Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu coming back to rock the stage. We also see some people on this list who haven’t performed at the festival in a while, most notably Solange, who has had an amazing year this year, but hasn’t stepped foot on the EMF stage since her last performance in 2013.
Also confirmed to perform at the 2017 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Jazmine Sullivan, Ro James, Junes Diary, Chaka Khan, Shaggy, India.Arie, John Legend, Yuna, Tweet, Lalah Hathaway, Lizzo, and more.
Weekend ticket packages for the 2017 Essence Festival go on sale on Dec. 16. For more information, visit essence.com.
His name is Charlie, Last name Wilson. I know I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but does this man ever stop?! I’m not sure where he gets his energy from, but I hope some of these young artist out here today are taking major notes, because EVERY TIME I turn around, Charlie Wilson is out on tour blazing a stage.
In an announcement just made, Uncle Charlie let everyone know that his upcoming national arena tour will kick off on February 8, 2017 in Norfolk, VA. The tour, In It To Win It, is also the title of Wilson’s new album which is slated for release on February 17, 2017.
He’s not in it to win it all alone though, he’s bringing some equally yoked R&B heavy hitters along for the jaunt. Ms. ‘Lose To Win‘ Fantasia Barrino and Johnny Gill will also grace the stage, along with a new group by the name of Solero.

Can you believe that we are almost at the end of the year, and about to go into 2017? Nope, we can’t believe it either. With 2016 being a rough year musically with the loss of one of the legendary musical greats, Prince Roger Nelson, we kind of are looking towards the new year for a fresh start.
Speaking of the Purple One, apparently we aren’t the only ones who have our eyes set forth for 2017. Prince’s estate, in conjunction with Paisley Park, will ‘party like it’s 1999’ with Celebration 2017, a four-day festival at his former residence. Fans are invited to take part in the event which takes place from April 20th-23rd at Paisley Park. The event will tap into the talent of a few of Prince’s contemporaries, as well as artists whose careers he help launch including The Revolution, Morris Day and The Time, New Power Generation, Liv Warfield, Shelby J. and 3RDEYEGIRL to perform. Other acts will be added to the lineup as well.
‘CELEBRATION 2017 will honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Prince, as the world marks the first anniversary of his passing. Bringing together musicians, creative personnel, special guests and friends who worked closest with Prince and knew him best, these four days will feature live music, panel discussions and presentations on Prince’s tremendous talent, influence and importance as a composer, musician, producer, live performer and filmmaker.‘
We hope that you brought your wallet and credit cards with you, because tickets START at $500, but it’s for a multi-day pass. If you’re interested in going, grab your passes at the Celebration website.
Sunday, November 20th was a night for the DMV area to remember. It has been some time since the “vocal bible”, Brandy, has given a full show and fans showed up in droves to attend.
There’s about to be a LOT of magic buzzing around the world, say about 24K worth of it.
Can Bruno Mars be stopped? I’m not so sure of that, after scoring another Top 5 Billboard Hot 100 hit with ‘24K Magic‘, being tapped to perform the inaugural show at the new MGM National Harbor Casino and performing in this year’s Superbowl. We are certain that the announcement of his ‘24K Magic Tour’ will further heighten the excitement around his upcoming album of the same name, which drops on November 18th.
The world tour kicks off in Antwerp, Belgium on March 28th and jets around Europe before opening its North American leg July 15th at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. The 24K Magic Tour will crisscross the continent, including two nights each at Chicago’s United Center and Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, before concluding with a four-night stand at Los Angeles’ The Forum November 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th.
Hooligans, you can cop your tickets for the string of dates early by pre-ordering his album NOW at his online store. Tickets for the general public hit the retail spots on Monday, November 21st.

There are some artists who reigned in ‘yesteryear’ who are either nowhere to be found or all over the place. New Kids On The Block certainly fall in the category of the latter. Despite their last number one hit album or song being in the 1990’s, they still have the juice to not only tour, but tour arenas and sell them out. That says a LOT to their buying and lasting power.
In an announcement made this morning on NBC’s Today Show, the 5 “bros” from Boston have concocted “The Total Package Tour”, which like most of their past tour jaunts, will feature other popular musical artists from their main era of prominence. Joining them for this time will be R&B trio Boyz II Men and Ms. Paula Abdul, someone we haven’t seen on a touring stage in over 25 years.
2016 isn’t even over yet, but I guess that doesn’t stop us from looking onward to what’s coming in 2017.
