I have always heard of the explosive nature that Fantasia could bring to a stage but Friday night I had the opportunity to witness it first hand.
The night began with R&B crooner, Joe, taking to the stage with his hit ‘Stutter’ displaying some dance moves that I have never seen from the singer. At one point during the show he made a comment that he did not have the full range of his voice, if he did not point out that fact, I would have never known. The singer went on to perform hits such as ‘All The Things Your Man Won’t Do’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Be A Player’ and ‘Faded Pictures’. The live band, the energy, the suit and his adventure through the Pier Six audience made for a great show. If I had to scale his performance on a one to ten basis, I would give him a nine. I recommend going to see Joe if he comes to your town.
After a quick band change and a swift move of the crowd to the front of the stage; the lights in the Pavilion went out. The intro began, background singers began to file out and the woman of the hour had made her way to the stage. The show was filled with energy on stage and off. “Free Yourself”, ‘Without Me’, ‘Lose To Win’ and ‘When I See You’ are just a few of the songs on her set list. I can honestly say that this is the first show that I have been to where I was so full that I did not know what to do with myself. If the videos below are shaky, I apologize, lol. The dancing, that voice, the inclusion of songs that influenced her when growing up and performing a GoGo classic that had the DMV crowd in an uproar. If you do nothing else with your life, you have to take the time out to go catch a Fantasia show. I promise you, I almost kicked my shoes off and ran around the Pavilion myself. Tens across the board for Ms. Barrino and I look forward to checking out any future shows she may have planned.
