Imagine being on vacation on a tropical island, laid back in the most comfortable cushioned seat, looking at nature’s beauty, where the weather is of perfection and the vibe is endlessly right! Breathtaking right?!…Well, amazingly, That feeling, that igniting excitement inside, along with the calming of your mind, is exactly the equivalent of a Lalah Hathaway Live experience!
The moment Lalah Hathaway stepped on the Howard Theatre Stage for her 2nd night and final WHUR sponsored show here in Washington, DC, it was if the room transitioned and everyone fell into vacation mode! Smiles grew on people’s faces as their shoulders relaxed and heads bobbed left and right. The incredible ability Ms. Hathaway has to mentally remove you from any days worry or stress, and positively effect your thought process with her warm, sultry, confident voice and tone quality, is AMAZING!!!!!
Taking the audience on a journey that will now forever be embedded in their memories as one of the best experiences ever! Ms. Hathaway, her awesome backing vocalist and undeniably amazing band, had everyone mesmerized as they delivered stellar performances of her many hits such as: “Little Ghetto Boy”, “You Were Meant For Me”, “Forever, For Always, For Love”, “Baby Don’t Cry”, “It’s Something” and many others. As each song was performed, the more amazing the show became! At one point, she called up to the stage, a young lady named Lorraina who bought the opportunity to be “sung to on stage”, by participating in the wonderful Pledge Music campaign that raised funding for the new upcoming album entitled: “Lalah Hathaway Live” that will be released on October 30th. The song Ms. Hathaway chose to sing was an awesome song off of this new upcoming album that we are sure everyone will love.
During another portion of the show, she pulled out some of the top oldies but goodies such as: “Would You Mind” By: Earth,Wind & Fire and “Yearning For Your Love”, By: The Gap Band, just to name a couple. By the end of the show, no one in the audience was ready to go, and a chant of “We want more” began. Just as quickly as that could start, our attention was captured by her Newly Released Music video: “Little Ghetto Boy” which was wonderful and depicts various aged young men doing day to day things while promoting a message of belief in yourself by fighting to make your own way. Stating:“This World Is Madness, What You Gonna Do”. It also showcases some familiar faces and is a must watch! Once the music video ended, the house lights did not come up and a magical moment occurred. The velvet curtains rose on stage, and Ms. Hathaway was back to give us one more amazing song, as well as introduce us to the fabulous band, and do some call and response singing with the audience! It was definitely a night to remember and a connection that can never be broken.
It is a blessing for her to have vocal ability from her impeccably brilliant Father Donny Hathaway, along with irresistible, natural musicianship from her amazing mother Eulaulah Hathaway. However, Lalah Hathaway is a fully loaded musical force to be reckoned with, all on her own! Beginning a powerful professional career signed to a major label, while attending Berklee College Of Music already speaks for her drive, dedication and determination alone. Knowing that both tasks are challenging but very rewarding at the same time, Ms. Hathaway made multi-tasking look easy and still does today. She is a two time Grammy award winning artist who has never had any trouble charting Billboard and having her seven albums: “Lalah Hathaway”, “A Moment”, Japan Released EP: “Night & Day”, “The Song Lives On”, “Outrun The Sun”, “Self Portrait”, and “Where It All Began”, touch the hearts of the masses. She truly deserves every bit of success she has and we here at Concert Daily wish her overwhelming happiness with this new album coming out on October 30th: “Lalah Hathaway Live”, as well as with the rest of her incredible career.
