Diana Ross, Solange, Mary J. Blige And More Lead The Charge Of The 2017 Essence Festival Headliners

emf2017

Well Merry Christmas INDEED to us! The folks over at ESSENCE just blessed us with an early gift, which came in the form of the 2017 Essence Festival talent lineup.

They really seem to be on the ball this year with announcements regarding the annual festival, because last year no one heard anything about ANY acts until the end of February 2016. As of right now, we haven’t even entered into the new year yet, and have a full deck of playing cards, NICE!

Now we know who will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for June 30- July 2, 2017 pulled a sneak attack and threw out a list of some of it’s headliners.

Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Puff Daddy & The Family, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Charlie Wilson, Babyface and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?

Headliners include a few Festival first-timers, The Boss, Ms. Diana Ross and Teyana Taylor making an appearance and Festival favorites, Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu coming back to rock the stage. We also see some people on this list who haven’t performed at the festival in a while, most notably Solange, who has had an amazing year this year, but hasn’t stepped foot on the EMF stage since her last performance in 2013.

Also confirmed to perform at the 2017 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Jazmine Sullivan, Ro James, Junes Diary, Chaka Khan, Shaggy, India.Arie, John Legend, Yuna, Tweet, Lalah Hathaway, Lizzo, and more.

Weekend ticket packages for the 2017 Essence Festival go on sale on Dec. 16. For more information, visit essence.com.

2016 Budweiser Made In America Lineup Revealed

made-in-america-flyer-2016

Ok, so it’s no secret that one of the biggest festivals in the United States used to officially “close out the summer” is the JayZ curated Made In America.

The details about the show were pretty mum, aside from the dates. Set for Labor Day weekend, which translates to September 3-4, we now know who the performing acts are. It’s been announced that the self-proclaimed “bad gal” Rihanna and Coldplay will headline the two day festival.

Joining those two, will be a host of other top-billing acts, such as Collegrove (who is the combination of 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne), Chance The Rapper, Bryson Tiller, DJ Khaled, Travi$ Scott, Tory Lanez, Desiigner and many more.

If you want tickets, they are being sold in two different levels. The first is your standard general admission two-day pass that merely gets you into the weekend worth of concerts. The other is a VIP ultimate experience pass, though it is not clear at this time what extra access that buys you.

Tidal subscribers will get first dibs as a presale exclusively on the music streaming site starts Wednesday at 10 a.m. General admission tickets are being sold on Ticketmaster starting Monday, June 27.

Coming Soon: The Roots Picnic Takes Over NYC

Fresh off of the heels of The famed Roots Picnic, which took place yesterday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with hot performances by Usher, The Roots, Future, and more, one of the front men of the group have dropped a little gem on us.

Via an instagram post on Questlove’s profile, he teased the idea of another Roots picnic taking place in 2016, but this time in New York City.

Dear New York…..Coming Soon To A Park Near You….#RootsPicnicNYC 2016 #ToBeContinued.

The FOLD Music Festival Returns With Two Locations

Web

Another day, another new music festival. Granted we love live festivals for all they’re worth, it seems like by the end of the decade there will be enough music festivals to take place on every day of the calendar year. Last year the newly announced FOLD (which stands for FreakOutLet’sDance) Festival made its debut at New York’s historic Martha’s Vineyard.

The event was deemed to be successful because it’s back for it’s second year, and it’s already expanding. Nile Rogers has plans in place to establish an international base with a separate FOLD festival happening in London, as well as returning to its previous home in New York.

Set to take place June 24-26 ad Fulham Palace, London, the UK version will have a totally different lineup than the State side show, which is good because it will help appeal to the overseas market. For those of you who are in the United States, you’ll have to wait until August 12-14 to see the showing.

Tickets to both shows are now available from the official FOLD music festival website.

The 2016 Summer Spirit Festival Becomes A Two Day Event August 6-7th

SSF

The DMV brings you numerous musical festivals each year, and one of them that we look forward to the most is the Summer Spirit Festival, which is slated to take place at the Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 6-7, 2016. Yes everybody, you read that right, they have NOW made this a weekend long event! In past years, we were only restricted to a Saturday afternoon full of fun and good music. Each year’s lineup is always solid, but this year might be one for the books. With two days full of music comes two big headlining acts, and who else is there to set off a weekend of soul and spirit filled fun than Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. They’ll be joined by other supreme talents like Janelle Monáe, The Roots, and Daley, Kindred The Family Soul among many more.

Last year, we were graced with the return of Floetry, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Estelle and others as the headliners of the show, and they certainly brought the house down.

Tickets for this event will go on-sale Friday, April 8th on Ticketfly or at the Merriweather Box Office.

Wow, Washington DC Hosts Its First Ever National Cannabis Festival

Weed fest

THIS is something that I certainly didn’t think I’d EVER see, not just a festival that’s totally dedicated to the glorification of weed, but it taking place in the Nation’s Capital! What makes things even more interesting is that throughout the day, performers will be will be introduced by pro-legalization celebrities and politicians.

In early 2015 a group of cannabis policy advocates, business owners and enthusiasts joined together around the idea to create The National Cannabis Festival (NCF), an event celebrating progress on marijuana legalization in DC and across the nation. We envisioned creating a festival recognizing the spirit of the cannabis movement and the non-profit groups that have fought for so long to end marijuana prohibition.

Taking place on April 23, 2016 on the grounds of RFK Stadium, being branded as more than just a festival, NCF is a chance to connect with members of the cannabis community and industry from across the country while enjoying a full day of music, games, delicious food and drink.

So far they have nationally recognized recording artist De La Soul, and Jesse Royal, as well as Go-Go legends Backyard Band tapped to perform. Tickets are on sale now National Cannabis Fest’s website.

FINALLY After Months Of Waiting, The 2016 Essence Music Festival Lineup Is Announced!

emf

This has been the LONGEST that ANYBODY has ever had to wait for the folks over at Essence to announce the lineup for the annual Essence Music Festival. I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter from fans wondering what the holdup is, because we usually hear something around mid January.

Now we know who will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for June 30th- July 3rd, pulled a sneak attack and threw out a list of some of it’s headliners.

Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliottt, Usher, Erykah Badu, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?

Headliners include Festival first-timer, Mariah Carey and Festival favorites, Maxwell and Charlie Wilson. We also see some people on this list who haven’t performed at the festival in a while, most notably Ciara, who hasn’t stepped foot on the EMF stage since her last performance in 2007.

Also confirmed to perform at the 2015 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Andra Day, BJ The Chicago Kid, Cyril Neville, Daley, Dej Loaf, Digable Planets, Dumpstaphunk, Eric Bellinger, Estelle, Faith Evans, Jeremih, Jidenna, Judith Hill, Lady Leshurr, Lalah Hathaway, Leon Bridges, Lion Babe, Little Simz, Mali Music, MC Lyte, New Breed Brass Band, Robert Glasper Experiment, St. Beauty, The Brand New Heavies, The Internet, Tink, Tyrese, and V. Bozeman.

We’re not sure who will be performing on which night, or who will be kicking things off with the “Now Playing” concert, which has been introduced as the Thursday night festivities.

Acts will continuously be added to this already impressive list, so keep it locked on Concert Daily for all the updates. Although single day tickets aren’t available yet, you can buy the 3-day weekend package on Ticketmaster.
