New York City’s AFROPUNK Festival Serves Up Some Soul This August With Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones and More

August…although it’s the last “real” month of Summer, it’s also usually one of the hottest as well, turning up the heat all the way around. When we mean heat, we’re not just talking about temperature wise, but also the new “hotness” that the music industry and culture can bring us, more particular, we are talking about AFROPUNK Festival. Last year, the event brought names like SZA,The Internet, Meshell Ndegeocello and D’Angelo to Brooklyn for two unforgettable days chock full of music. Since then, the festival has gone global, touching down in cities like Atlanta, Chicago and Paris to baptize them with their musical message. But no matter where the festival goes, New York City will always be the main base, and that’s where it’s returning to this year.

This year Grace Jones, Lenny Kravitz, Kelis and Danny Brown are the headliners of this year’s two-day set, taking place August 22nd-23rd in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park aka City Park. And while those names are huge in and of themselves, the guest list goes even further and includes Lion Babe, Thundercat, Raury, Kaytranada and the crew. Pretty much what we’re saying is don’t miss out!

A new concept for this year is the affordable paid and earned ticket system which will create an array of “low barrier volunteer activities and projects” that will be required of anyone that hopes to attend the event itself. For anyone who just wants to pay, tickets for the show are now on sale via AFROPUNK’s Eventbrite page and range from $45 for general admission seats to $250 for the VIP packages.
