Diana Ross, Solange, Mary J. Blige And More Lead The Charge Of The 2017 Essence Festival Headliners

emf2017

Well Merry Christmas INDEED to us! The folks over at ESSENCE just blessed us with an early gift, which came in the form of the 2017 Essence Festival talent lineup.

They really seem to be on the ball this year with announcements regarding the annual festival, because last year no one heard anything about ANY acts until the end of February 2016. As of right now, we haven’t even entered into the new year yet, and have a full deck of playing cards, NICE!

Now we know who will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for June 30- July 2, 2017 pulled a sneak attack and threw out a list of some of it’s headliners.

Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Puff Daddy & The Family, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Charlie Wilson, Babyface and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?

Headliners include a few Festival first-timers, The Boss, Ms. Diana Ross and Teyana Taylor making an appearance and Festival favorites, Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu coming back to rock the stage. We also see some people on this list who haven’t performed at the festival in a while, most notably Solange, who has had an amazing year this year, but hasn’t stepped foot on the EMF stage since her last performance in 2013.

Also confirmed to perform at the 2017 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Jazmine Sullivan, Ro James, Junes Diary, Chaka Khan, Shaggy, India.Arie, John Legend, Yuna, Tweet, Lalah Hathaway, Lizzo, and more.

Weekend ticket packages for the 2017 Essence Festival go on sale on Dec. 16. For more information, visit essence.com.

The Feelin’ Was Real: Lalah Hathaway & Anthony Hamilton Captures The Soul of Downtown Baltimore

The Modell Performing Arts Center of Baltimore, more affectionately known simply as The Lyric played host to a concert experience last night that I’m still trying to find true words for.

Soul balladeer Anthony Hamilton, along with Lalah Hathaway and Eric Benet brought his What I’m Feelin’ Tour to Downtown Baltimore, on what felt like the first true Fall night of the season. The air was cool and crisp, the sky pitch black by 7:30 PM, but that didn’t stop folks from coming out to see this show. This particular show was one where I truly got to see age categories mesh so perfectly. On one hand you had your dapper dressed older gentleman who took their similarly elegant wives out for a special evening, which was low key pushing past their bedtime, and on the other hand you had the younger crowd which encompassed the couple who were probably out on their first date together.

The 2016 Essence Music Festival Powers Up With Puff Daddy & The Family Addition; Nightly Lineup Released

diddy-common_400x295_29

So we found out about the initial lineup of the 2016 Essence Festival a couple of months ago. Some people were excited about it, and other people felt like “meh” for having to wait for MONTHS for a glimmer of a talent announcement and not seeing anyone that they deemed as a “spectacular” artist on the roaster.

At that time, Essence had said to “stay tuned” for another announcement soon and it looks like the cat is out of the bag finally. One of the biggest moves that they have made for this year’s festival is throw in the addition of Puff Daddy & The Family. Everyone seems to be stuck on all things nostalgia based, and the same can be said for music. We’re sure that you know, but just recently Puffy put tickets on sale to a Bad Boy Reunion concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which ended up selling out in 7 minutes and prompted him to add a second date that sold out as well. It was a no-brainer that the EMF brand would tap into this and get him to play this year’s show.

Along with Diddy, they have added two hip-hop kings who rocked the Mercedes Benz Superdome last year, Common and Kendrick Lamar. We also now know the detailed night-by-night lineup of performers, and everything seems to mesh pretty well. In addition, you can now purchase single night tickets on Ticketmaster.

We’ve got the nightly lineup below, so take a look…

SATURDAY, JULY 2: Mainstage: Mariah Carey, Charlie Wilson, Common, Jeremih, Estelle. Superlounges: Doug E. Fresh, Tink, Jidenna, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, St. Beauty, Lalah Hathaway, Judith Hill, Wizkid, Lady Leshurr.

SUNDAY, JULY 3: Mainstage: Kendrick Lamar, Puff Daddy & the Family, Ciara, Andra Day. Superlounges: MC Lyte, Dej Loaf, Cyril Neville, Leon Bridges, Kehlani, New Breed Brass Band, Robert Glasper Experiment, BJ the Chicago Kid, the Brand New Heavies, Little Simz.

FINALLY After Months Of Waiting, The 2016 Essence Music Festival Lineup Is Announced!

emf

This has been the LONGEST that ANYBODY has ever had to wait for the folks over at Essence to announce the lineup for the annual Essence Music Festival. I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter from fans wondering what the holdup is, because we usually hear something around mid January.

Now we know who will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for June 30th- July 3rd, pulled a sneak attack and threw out a list of some of it’s headliners.

Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliottt, Usher, Erykah Badu, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?

Headliners include Festival first-timer, Mariah Carey and Festival favorites, Maxwell and Charlie Wilson. We also see some people on this list who haven’t performed at the festival in a while, most notably Ciara, who hasn’t stepped foot on the EMF stage since her last performance in 2007.

Also confirmed to perform at the 2015 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Andra Day, BJ The Chicago Kid, Cyril Neville, Daley, Dej Loaf, Digable Planets, Dumpstaphunk, Eric Bellinger, Estelle, Faith Evans, Jeremih, Jidenna, Judith Hill, Lady Leshurr, Lalah Hathaway, Leon Bridges, Lion Babe, Little Simz, Mali Music, MC Lyte, New Breed Brass Band, Robert Glasper Experiment, St. Beauty, The Brand New Heavies, The Internet, Tink, Tyrese, and V. Bozeman.

We’re not sure who will be performing on which night, or who will be kicking things off with the “Now Playing” concert, which has been introduced as the Thursday night festivities.

Acts will continuously be added to this already impressive list, so keep it locked on Concert Daily for all the updates. Although single day tickets aren’t available yet, you can buy the 3-day weekend package on Ticketmaster.
