Diana Ross, Solange, Mary J. Blige And More Lead The Charge Of The 2017 Essence Festival Headliners

Well Merry Christmas INDEED to us! The folks over at ESSENCE just blessed us with an early gift, which came in the form of the 2017 Essence Festival talent lineup.

They really seem to be on the ball this year with announcements regarding the annual festival, because last year no one heard anything about ANY acts until the end of February 2016. As of right now, we haven’t even entered into the new year yet, and have a full deck of playing cards, NICE!

Now we know who will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for June 30- July 2, 2017 pulled a sneak attack and threw out a list of some of it’s headliners.

Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Puff Daddy & The Family, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Charlie Wilson, Babyface and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?

Headliners include a few Festival first-timers, The Boss, Ms. Diana Ross and Teyana Taylor making an appearance and Festival favorites, Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu coming back to rock the stage. We also see some people on this list who haven’t performed at the festival in a while, most notably Solange, who has had an amazing year this year, but hasn’t stepped foot on the EMF stage since her last performance in 2013.

Also confirmed to perform at the 2017 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Jazmine Sullivan, Ro James, Junes Diary, Chaka Khan, Shaggy, India.Arie, John Legend, Yuna, Tweet, Lalah Hathaway, Lizzo, and more.

Weekend ticket packages for the 2017 Essence Festival go on sale on Dec. 16. For more information, visit essence.com.

Mary J. Blige And Maxwell Will Hold Court On The ‘King And Queen Of Hearts’ World Tour

Hear ye, hear ye, the King and Queen request your attention! Two of the hottest and biggest names in R&B are coming together for a joint tour.

Maxwell has announced the King & Queen of Hearts World Tour with Mary J. Blige kicking off in October 2016! We’ve seen each artist individually, so we can tell you that if you love R&B music, this is a MUST SEE show.

Sure, we could say that they naming this tour as such could be a bit boastful, but let’s face facts here, MJB IS the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul, and there’s no doubt that Maxwell is one of the reigning kings of R&B, even after he disappears for some years. But what can you expect on the tour, a lot of heartfelt singing and sheer seduction.

With the recent split between MJB and her husband, you already know she’s going to put a little bit of extra emotion into her already charged up woman anthems. Maxwell’s latest album ‘blackSUMMERS’night‘ has just been another notch in his “slide the panties right off” belt.

Their tour is set to kick off overseas in the fall, before it comes states side in North America. Ticket sales for the US shows go on sale this Friday via Ticketmaster. Get the full list of tour dates below.

Puff Daddy Lines Up The “Bad Boy Reunion” Concert In Honor Of The Notorious B.I.G

It’s finally happening! So about a year ago, we reported that Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs was touting with the idea of finally kicking off a Bad Boy and The Family reunion tour after their rousing performance at the 2015 BET Awards. Mouths had pretty much been closed since he made that statement, and some people had kind of forgot about a possible tour from one of the major stables of music in the 1990’s.

Well folks, it’s time to get excited again, because Puffy has confirmed that he will bring his family back together for “One Night Only”. Diddy will reunite the Bad Boys Records clique for a concert set to take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, which we all know is the home of the Notorious B.I.G. It’s not a coincidence that the show is being brought to BK, because the show will serve as a tribute to Biggie, taking place on May 20th, which would have marked the 44th birthday of the slain rapper.

This is a major mark for music, especially if you had the opportunity to live during the 90’s. We all knew the impact that the East Coast label played in not only what was jamming music for the time, but what has now become part of history. During a time when everyone seems to be so intrigued over “throwback” this or “flashback” that, now is the time for this show to happen. I’m personally excited about this because I didn’t get a chance to see the “No Way Out: Puff Daddy & The Family Tour” back in 1998. There seems to be no games being played, because it appears that Puff has rallied up ALL of the troops. Lil’ Kim, Faith Evans, Ma$e, Total, 112, The Lox, Mario Winans and French Montana will all be gracing the stage, but wait, that’s not it. He’s also got some special guests in the name of Jay Z and Mary J. Blige!

“This isn’t just another concert – This is hip-hop history,” Puff Daddy said in a statement. “The Bad Boy Family includes some of the biggest names in music and songs that helped define a whole generation of music. Also, we are celebrating one of the greatest of all time – Notorious B.I.G. This will be a night to remember. I can’t wait to see you all there.”

Tickets for the Bad Boy reunion concert go on sale April 2nd at 11 a.m. EST via Ticketmaster, but if you’re one of the select few, there is a pre-sale that starts tomorrow, March 31st.

2015 Essence Music Festival: Sunday Rewind

We are in the final stretch; this was the LAST DAY of the 2015 Essence Music Festival. Our day started out again over at the Convention Center. Since today was Sunday, and as always at EMF, there were more events geared to the spiritual aspect of things. The Essence Fest attendees get taken to church from well known pastors and musical selections from the country’s top Gospel and Christian artists. This year saw the incomparable Kim Burrell as the honoree of the yearly gospel tribute. This was a totally free show for people, and included special performances by Smokie Norful, Yolanda Adams, Jonathan McReynolds and more. The Spirit filled the place as you could see people being moved as they waved their hands and began to tear up. Even Ms. Burrell got hit by The Spirit as she jumped out of her seat and grabbed a mic and proceeded to sing. She had a couple of her celebrity friends (India.Arie, Chrisette Michelle, Anita Wilson and Lalah Hathaway) to join her in song.

Over at the Verizon booth, Omarion was chatting it up with Terrance J about how it feels to be back on the top of the charts and describing his excitement for his performance at the Superdome that night. He also had the opportunity to meet his legion of fans and take pictures with each and every one of them.

The McDonald’s booth was again the hot spot for R&B live performances, when 112 took the stage. It certainly felt like the late 1990’s all over again seeing them move, groove and sing to all of the songs that we knew the words to.

2015 Essence Music Festival [Featuring Missy Elliott, Usher and more]

It’s that time again to find out who exactly will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for July 2nd – 5th, has recently released who will be headlining their concert series.

This year, a lot of usual festival goers were up in the air about whether or not they wanted to go to “the party with a purpose” simply because the organizers were dragging their feet with announcing not only who the headliners would be, but who would be performing PERIOD!

Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Prince, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Lionel Richie, Janelle Monae and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?

Headliners include Festival first-timer, Kendrick Lamar and Festival favorite, Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Missy Elliott

Also confirmed to perform at the 2015 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Erykah Badu, India.Arie, Common, Floetry, Sevyn Streeter, Kelly Price, Lianne La Havas, Elle Varner, Esperanza Spalding, Raheem DeVaughn, Mali Music, Eric Roberson, Teedra Moses, Avery*Sunshine, Bilal, Goapele, Robert Glasper, Trombone Shorty, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, Mystikal, Slick Rick, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Nico &Vinz, SZA, Dee-1, Tonya Bond Cannon, Leon Bridges, Andra Day, Kindred The Family Soul, Tweet, Jeff Bradshaw and Tank & The Bangas.

Kevin Hart, Trey Songz, and Lecrae will headline the festival’s opening “Now Playing” concert, a sort of soft opening, on Thursday, July 2. The festival first presented a smaller Thursday night event, with reduced seating and only one stage, in 2014. Hart first performed on the main Essence stage in 2012.

Acts will continuously be added to this already impressive list, so keep it locked on Concert Daily for all the updates. You can purchase tickets on Ticketmaster.

Another free event is coming to the Nation’s Capital, Global Citizen’s Earth Day 2015 benefit concert will be taking place on April 18, 2015 on the grounds of the Washington Monument from 11am-7pm.

Marking the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day comes during a pivotal time to protect the planet and ensure that world leaders address key issues facing the next generation. Timed to coincide with the spring meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day will bring together global policymakers, finance ministers, environment and development NGOs, industry executives and high-profile artists.

The concert is to be hosted by Will.I.Am and Soledad O’Brien, with performances by No Doubt, Usher, Fall Out Boy, Mary J. Blige, Train, and My Morning Jacket, and special guests Common and D’Banj. As with all free events that happen in Washington, they get packed pretty quick, so if you want to go to this AND get a good viewing spot, we suggest that you arrive early and take the Metro subway system as there will be street closures.

R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige Are Joining Forces To Tour

2014 is shaping up to be a year of amazing shows.

R. Kelly has just announced plans of going out on the road with the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul herself, Mary J. Blige. The two have yet to announce any dates but the tour is appropriately titled, ‘The King and Queen Tour’. I don’t know about you but I definitely look forward to seeing what this show has to offer.

Keep it locked for dates and ticket info.
