2017 Governors Ball Lineup Revealed

The “official” start to the Summer is really Memorial Day weekend, but nothing says Summer’s here in New York City than the annual Governor’s Ball Music Festival.

This year, the event takes place from June 2nd – 4th at the usual spot, which is Randalls Island Park. Upon a quick glimpse at the lineup, I have to say that this year’s show is EXTREMELY Hip-Hop heavy, which is a great thing, as it’s no secret that we at Concert Daily love our R&B and Hip-Hop music.

Chance The Rapper along with Childish Gambino are two of the star headliners. Rock band Tool will play their first show in the NYC area in over a decade! If you’re a true Tool fan, you won’t want to miss this.

Tickets to Governors Ball go on sale Friday, January 6th at noon at govball.com.

Kanye West’s 2 AM NYC Concert Causes Riot Sized Crowds Outside Webster Hall

Today was a total Kanye West takeover for New York City.

He was originally planned to headline the 2016 Governors Ball today, before it got cancelled due to the thunderstorms moving through the city. Major bummer to all the fans who had purchased tickets to see Yeezy. That particular loss turned into a MAJOR win for all of the attendees over at Hot 97’s Summerjam.

Since Ye technically had the night off, he didn’t want to lay dormant, so they gave him a spot on the main stage of the summer’s biggest event at the Metlife stadium. That was cool and all, but in regular Kanye fashion, “I’m going to let you finish but…”, and that’s just what he did.

After his Summerjam set, there were rumors that he would perform a late night concert at 2 AM SOMEWHERE in the city. Nobody knew where that somewhere was until around 1 AM. That somewhere happened to be at Webster Hall, and of course the show was sold out in a matter of minutes, but that didn’t stop eager fans of trying to go anyways, but then THIS happened.

WAAAAAY too many people showed up and caused crowds of epic proportions late night on a Sunday. Yeezy made a call to some unknown individual to get in contact with Mayor of NYC to say that he wants to have a party outside for all of those who couldn’t make it in the show.

This whole situation is CRAZY. Sources from within the crowd are reporting that people are getting shoved to the ground and slight violent behavior occurring. New York City already shut down a number of rap concerts last week in lieu of the shooting incident that happened at T.I.’s show, so we can ONLY imagine what’s going to happen tonight, BUT that’s if they can get enough police to break the crowd.

There was JUST a tweet from Webster Hall mentioning that there IS NOT a 2 AM show, so what’s REALLY going on?!  If they thought that the crowd was just “riot sized” before, then they just may see a riot pop off. Stay tuned to all the developments of this story.

Coming Soon: The Roots Picnic Takes Over NYC

Fresh off of the heels of The famed Roots Picnic, which took place yesterday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with hot performances by Usher, The Roots, Future, and more, one of the front men of the group have dropped a little gem on us.

Via an instagram post on Questlove’s profile, he teased the idea of another Roots picnic taking place in 2016, but this time in New York City.

Since it’s inception 9 years ago, The Roots Picnic has been one of the most attended music festivals centered around hip-hop and R&B, so to see it setup camp in the birthplace of hip-hop, can mean that there will be a phenomenal lineup. Stay tuned for more info as it all unfolds.

The Bad Boy Family Kills Their Reunion Performance On The Today Show

So today is the BIG DAY everybody! Puff Daddy and the Family returns to the top of the musical food chain with their two-night sold out show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. To celebrate what has been 20 years in the making, Diddy got the party started early.

The Today show kicked off its 2016 Citi Concert Series with a bang. That’s right, DiddyMase, 112, Lil’ Kim, The Lox and even Busta Rhymes came out to deliver all the hip-hop hits that we love to the kind people of Time Square, and they absolutely killed it. It has me even more hype for the tour since I literally just purchased my ticket for the show!

Anyone who is a hip-hip, R&B, or music fan in general knows that the Bad Boy Family is a staple in music and ruled the 90’s and early 2000’s. We are in a state of enjoying everything that’s nostalgic now, from fashion, toys, movie reboots and especially music.

To top it all of, tickets to the Bad Boy and the Family Reunion tour are NOW on sale via Ticketmaster as of this morning.

Coney Island’s Amphitheater Will Now Be The Newest Destination For Live Music In Brooklyn

Coney Island once was the epicenter of fun and entertainment in Brooklyn, New York before things started to go down hill in the 1980’s. The Amphitheater is being developed by iStar, in partnership with Coney Island USA and serves as a key part New York City’s larger commitment to investing in and revitalizing Coney Island community. Live Nation will operate the venue including booking and promoting a full summer concert season, which already has an outstanding lineup put together.

Some of the phenomenal performers set to take the stage for the inaugural season are Ziggy Marley, Sting, Peter GabrielJill ScottErykah BaduJane’s Addiction, Kool & The Ganga, The Deftones, and 311. Tickets for all of these upcoming shows will go on sale Friday, April 15th at 10 am. The Big Hits Throwback Festival Packs A Punch With TLC, Ja-Rule, Shaggy, Bobby Brown And More

We see that a lot of music today is pretty much a rehash of the throwback jams from the 80’s and 90’s. Almost every hit song has a sample from a popular R&B track from back in the day, from Tory Lanez’ “Say It”, Big Sean’s “Play No Games”, to Snootie Wild’s “Roxanne”.

Well how about we properly take it back to the time of golden music. The-Dream Announces Dates For “The Genesis Tour”

Super producer and singer The-Dream has been relatively quiet on the musical front when it comes to his own music lately, but you know as they always say, when you’re quite, that means you’re busy.

Now we know why things have been so quiet, because he was in the process of cooking up some new material. Earlier today, the “Falsetto” singer dropped a short video clip with the visual of a man covered in what seems to be plaster, breaking through the front door of a home, donning an instrumental track and the words “Genesis”, and mentioning that it will be available on Tidal.

Sure, we don’t know if it means that he’s about to drop a new song, or a whole album, but we know SOMETHING is coming. Along with this teaser video, he’s also started rolling out dates for his “The Genesis Tour” in small increments. We say this because only 6 dates have been announced so far. Tickets go on sale for all shows this Friday, January 8th. Check back with us frequently as we’ll keep updating his list of shows as they become available.
