Atlanta, Did You Stop And Watch The Stars? I Think That You Should Have.

You hear it all of the time, especially from the older generation. “There is nothing like the old school” and “We will never get music like that again.” I admit, I am guilty of saying it a few times myself. There are only so many times you can hear artist call women out of their name on a song or speak in what is supposed to be English but misses the mark. It gets old quick.

Twilight Productions 2 has given those of us who need a break from the norm some relief. Don’t get me wrong, I am an 80’s baby who is very much a fan of most of the artist today but I grew up on music from the 80’s and 90’s where women were women and men were men. Not b*tches, h**s or ni**as.

2015 Essence Music Festival [Featuring Missy Elliott, Usher and more]

It’s that time again to find out who exactly will be taking over NOLA this 4th of July weekend. That’s right, one of the biggest national musical events, the annual Essence Music Festival, slated for July 2nd – 5th, has recently released who will be headlining their concert series.

This year, a lot of usual festival goers were up in the air about whether or not they wanted to go to “the party with a purpose” simply because the organizers were dragging their feet with announcing not only who the headliners would be, but who would be performing PERIOD!

Last year’s festival brought some huge names in music, with the likes of Prince, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Lionel Richie, Janelle Monae and many more taking the stages, so get into who will be rocking the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year…is it anybody that you want to see?

Headliners include Festival first-timer, Kendrick Lamar and Festival favorite, Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Missy Elliott

Also confirmed to perform at the 2015 ESSENCE Festival nighttime concerts at the Superdome include Erykah Badu, India.Arie, Common, Floetry, Sevyn Streeter, Kelly Price, Lianne La Havas, Elle Varner, Esperanza Spalding, Raheem DeVaughn, Mali Music, Eric Roberson, Teedra Moses, Avery*Sunshine, Bilal, Goapele, Robert Glasper, Trombone Shorty, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, Mystikal, Slick Rick, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Nico &Vinz, SZA, Dee-1, Tonya Bond Cannon, Leon Bridges, Andra Day, Kindred The Family Soul, Tweet, Jeff Bradshaw and Tank & The Bangas.

Kevin Hart, Trey Songz, and Lecrae will headline the festival’s opening “Now Playing” concert, a sort of soft opening, on Thursday, July 2. The festival first presented a smaller Thursday night event, with reduced seating and only one stage, in 2014. Hart first performed on the main Essence stage in 2012.

Acts will continuously be added to this already impressive list, so keep it locked on Concert Daily for all the updates. You can purchase tickets on Ticketmaster.

WPGC 95.5 Shuts Down DC with ‘For Sisters Only’

Saturday, October 4th was an eventful day at the Washington Convention Center in the nation’s capital. The day was filled with amazing food vendor’s, clothes, seminars, entertainment and a stripper pole. Yes, I said a stripper pole.

Personally, I make it a point to attend the festivities every year and I make sure to include my family. You spend the entire day together having fun but learning at the same time. Panels such as ‘Why I Stayed’, bring up topics that most people are often afraid to talk about but let’s people know that they are not alone.

As far as entertainment, you had demonstrations from Drea Kelly of VH1’s Hollywood Ex’s. Tamara Braxton, Diggy Simmons, Tank, Raheem Devaughn, Syleena Johnson, Lil Mo and more. Originally TI was not set to perform but he surprised the crowd with an impromptu performance of ‘Mediocre’ and ‘If It Ain’t About The Money’. Tamar performed all of her album favorites and Diggy was mauled by a group of tweens. Lol, seriously, he is a brave young man. Raheem, Syleena and Tank also put on great shows but I will let you be the judge.
